Love these boys!  Carrie’s youngest, Griffin, and Jeff’s oldest, Uri.  But guess whom we are all loving these days?  Yep, that adorable puppy sitting in my lap.  Her name is “John Griffin ‘Folly’’’  —  at least, that is what Griffin says.  😊  Believe me, you will probably be hearing more about my newest “grandpup” in the coming days and months and … years!

While I’m in love with these guys and “gal”, my heart is a bit heavy.  With Covid raging even in the summer months, many churches have suspended all programs  —  especially for the children.  I completely understand but watching church online is not very engaging for the children.  So, it is more important than ever for us grandparents to pour into our grandchildren, especially the young ones.  If mom and dad are not picking up the slack (which many are not as they are working AND taking care of the kids), then it is urgent for us grandparents to step up our game.  It is time for Grandparenting by Grit and Grace!

GRIT

Sometimes it is easy, fun (!) to grandparent.  But other times, it takes all we’ve got to do even the smallest task.  It takes resolve, determination, intentionality … GRIT (as we say in the South)!  Grandparenting is “heart work”.  This means at times, it is definitely hard work.

GRACE

Regardless of our determination, resolve, GRIT (!) to give all we can to our loved ones, it will take grace from God to truly have a lasting spiritual impact on our loved ones.

Would you like to be such a grandparent?  Join me tomorrow for a beautiful story portraying “grit and grace”.  Then later this week, I will begin to share with you some “Thoughts and Tools” for Grandparenting by Grit and Grace.

So, stay tuned.  Together, by God’s grace and power, we’ve got this grandparenting-covid-style.  It’s not easy.  But it is possible!
